Gabby Sutori | Art for Art | Barcelona, Spain
I am so excited to share this third edition of my 2014 personal project, Art for Art. Once a month, I find a fellow photographer whose work I admire, and I photograph them; they photograph me. We’ll get to see each other work; we’ll explore how different or similar our styles might be; and we can challenge ourselves to step in front of the lens rather than staying comfortably hidden. Best of all, we’ll get to walk away newly inspired by a fellow artist.
My Art for Art shoots so far: January- Melanie Gabrielle. February- Gabriel Gastelum.
For March, I went international with Art for Art and met up with Gabby of En Route Photography in Barcelona, Spain!
Our Styles:
Anna: As soon as I started this project and knew I would be traveling to Europe in March, I searched google for Barcelona and Copenhagen photographers. I looked through portfolios and blogs, and I found my way to Gabby’s website for En Route Photography. I immediately loved her lifestyle portraits, which are a beautiful mix of vibrant fashion-like photos and casual portraits. She responded with enthusiasm and we arranged everything from opposite sides of the world. I think my own style is a bit softer and lighter than Gabby’s, but we meshed well together.
Gabby: I create pretty, fun and happy images that look like they came straight out of a magazine. I’m very much drawn to Anna’s ethereal, soft and pretty images. She captures emotions so perfectly!
The Shoot:
Anna: The shoot was a wonderful experience and such a unique way to experience Barcelona. On my third day in Barcelona, I got ready for the shoot while all three of my travel companions took long naps at our apartment. I walked 30 minutes across the city to Gabby’s apartment, where I got to meet her brand new puppy Marley! And from there, we headed back toward the city center for the rest of our shoot in Barcelona’s historic Gothic Quarter. I loved it from start to end.
Gabby: FUN FUN FUN!!!! It’s always exciting and a bit weird to be on the other end of the camera but I think we made the best of it. I love to get shots of me done once a year at least to remind myself how it feels to be exposed this way and I always come out with a new-found appreciation for my clients. THEY ROCK!!! :)
Here are just a couple of my favorites from Gabby:

Lessons Learned:
Anna: I often think how lucky I am to love my work so much that I voluntarily “work” while on vacation. I think I found a kindred spirit in Gabby, because she focuses on international clients and travels for photography even more than I do. Gabby was such a natural in front of the camera, it was fun and inspiring to see her run with the direction I gave her, and I love the dreaminess and quiet emotion we got in her portraits– a departure, I think, from her usual bright and happy images, but a lovely extra side to her.
Gabby: Anna is very calm, direct and specific in her posing. I usually take a more freestyle approach, but actually it is very nice to take it slow and get specific directions (what to do with my hand etc) so I will incorporate more of that in my shoots moving forward! :)
Thank you so much for a fantastic shoot, Gabby! This was one of my favorite parts of our Barcelona visit.
