East Village & Around Manhattan in June
Back in New York City again! I photographed this beautiful Brooklyn wedding in June, and of course I got to spend some time exploring more of Manhattan while I was there. We kick it off with a classic shot of Grand Central Station– this was en route to our Blue Hill at Stone Barns day trip.
But let’s back up: here’s a little Japanese spot that we happened upon while walking through East Village: Dieci. Jesse had been there before, but it had been a while.
Highlights: The chawanmushi, second from the left (though not as good as the one at Hawksworth in Vancouver), and the uni spaghetti.
A couple days later, afternoon tea at Podunk Tea Room in East Village.
It’s definitely eclectic inside… eclectic bordering on ugly, but it has its own kind of charm.
The true star of this tea room is the food! We got two different tea services, each priced around $20 and including an array of sweets and savories.
The owner, Elspeth waxes poetic about the tea room.
I love cute stationery shops!

And a little hat shop too.
Thompson Park.
And where to eat for dinner? Thanks to a connection, we snagged two impromptu seats at Kura, which I first visited in August. Such delicious izakaya-style dishes and sushi too.

On Sunday, I headed to Grand Central Station to board the Metro North toward Blue Hill at Stone Barns.
On Monday, I met up with Jennie and Aeden at Press Tea in the West Village. They were conveniently coordinated in Duke Blue!
Then we headed to SoHo, stopping by Marvin’s Juice Box along the way.
For dinner, I met up with my TAF friends at Hill Country, followed by Eataly.
And that’s it! From midtown to downtown.
