Annie Vovan | Art for Art | Pacific Palisades

|

Here we are, a quarter of the way through 2015! But last month, I was so happy to reprise my personal project from last year, Art for Art. Once a month throughout 2014, I found a fellow photographer whose work I admire, and I photographed them; they photographed me. View the full set of previous shoots in the series here: Art for Art.

Since I very sadly missed November, leaving me at 11 shoots for the year, it was perfect that Annie Vovan connected with me about being inspired by Art for Art to take on the project as her own. So when I was down in LA in February, we met up and I got to do one more Art for Art shoot. Perfect!

Our Styles

Anna: My style is soft, airy, and understated. I think both Annie and I have similar aesthetics, and I love Annie’s emphasis on empowering women through her photography. She creates some really beautiful work and does so with such incredible heart.

Annie: My style is emotional, modern and pretty. I always strive for mom to be the star of the photo when doing family photos. I also really try to connect and make the session relaxing so the smile isn’t forced. I also try to not go with the same poses all the time and let the session unfold. Anna has a beautiful style that is light and pretty. Her photos are soft and delicate. She has a great eye and is really talented in composition and lighting. She has a style that is classic and gorgeous!

The Shoot

Anna: I was so happy to work with Annie. We were first connected through a photography community, so this was the first time we actually met in person. Annie is also expecting! At the time of the shoot, she hadn’t made the news public yet, but it was wonderful to get to document this special time for her as well.

Annie: I really enjoyed seeing how easy it was for Anna to look at where we would shoot. From spot to spot, I can always tell she was judging the light, which I loved. I also learned how even when you think the session may be done, she will still pick up her camera and keep going if she is inspired!

Lessons Learned?

Anna: We had a few obstacles thrown our way in getting this shoot done, and I think we were tempted to call it off when the fourth makeup artist fell through, but I am so glad we persisted and went through with everything. It’s always so worth it in the end. Annie did a great job with making me feel comfortable, and I absolutely love the images we both got. I’m excited to see where this project will take her too.

Annie: I learned that Anna is so ambitious and inspiring. She leads such a creative life and finds art in all forms. Whether she is knitting or going to the ballet, she is so well rounded in her hobbies! What a great life! I learned that she is also business savvy and not afraid to be vocal. I really like that about her!

Here are just a few of my favorites from Annie.
