A Boat Tour & A Train Tour

|

A boat and a train ride! Two more fun adventures from my Bay Area Gems in June. We kick it off with a free harbor tour of the Port of Oakland. They offer these twice a month in the summer, but you have to jump right on the tickets when they go on sale the month before. My friend Stephanie snagged tickets for us, and Lizzie and I were treated to a wonderful tour!

So many gigantic container ships. Oakland is the home of containerization. Prior to this movement, cargo boxes came in all different sizes and nothing was standardized.

Traveling in style.

And right at sunset!

Here are my illustrations (with links!) from the 100 Bay Area Gems project.

I reunited with Stephanie not long after to go on our train ride on the historic Niles Canyon Railway. We joined gaggles of children on this weekday summer tour. Stephanie blended right in with these yellow-clad younguns.

Such cute pullman cars!

And our post of choice: a converted flatbed car that is now a nice open-air tour car.

Afterwards we explored the little town of Niles and saw a billion antique stores, this cute tea room, and a very tasty ice cream shop!

Thanks for adventuring with me, Steph!
