A Weekend in Carmel-By-The-Sea
The end of May was when everything started changing all of a sudden in terms of our pandemic experience here in California. Alex and I both got our second vaccines in Mid-May, just in time for us to reach full immunity prior to Memorial Day weekend, when I would be down in Big Sur for a wedding. So we embraced the work travel by extending it into a lovely stay in Carmel over the holiday weekend. We were still wearing masks for the most part, but we were no longer scared to dine out, so we unlocked eating at restaurants again! See the highlights of the weekend below:
First, a lovely roadside stand where we purchased a gigantic bag of blackberries for $5 and the prettiest eggs. Dinner was waterfront dining at Sea Harvest in Moss Landing.
Pretty pink blooms all over Pacific Grove.
Our farmstand haul!
We stayed in an airbnb within walking distance of the town of Carmel. So cute. Charming cottages and adorable shops and restaurants everywhere.
Carmel was absolutely packed the whole holiday weekend, probably the first big weekend for everyone reemerging from the pandemic. A lot of restaurants were fully booked, and we ran into our restaurant running out of bread, plus a sushi restaurant that had run out of fish. But not to worry. We ended up at AW Shucks Oyster Bar the first night.
The next day, a visit to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, where there is a lovely stand of redwoods.
Endlessly beautiful coastline in Big Sur.
Loved the treehouse feel of our airbnb.
Early dinner at Stationæry, because we were still being good students and attending our online Chinese classes through NTU in Taipei every day for 90 minutes a day.
Yum.
The next morning, breakfast at La Bicyclette.
Then I was off to work at Cynthia & Erik’s wedding! So lovely.
And one final morning stroll around our Carmel neighborhood!
Such a lovely getaway. Until next time, Carmel/Big Sur!
