Bay Area | August, 2021
August recap! Wow, so much baseball. And a few outings with friends as well. Let’s get right into it!
The Giants continue to be #1 in all of MLB! We continue to attend a bunch of their games. I never thought I’d actually like going to so much baseball, but it’s quite a fun experience going with Alex, who has always loved the sport.
Crazy crab sandwiches. It’s a must-eat at the stadium. Dare I say better than the famed garlic fries? Thanks for the rec, Meg! Also, me crocheting at the game, haha. Don’t worry I really do watch the game too!
Happy Birthday little K! Visiting from Singapore!
So glad to have gotten to meet this little one! Even if her parents got stuck in California a bit longer than intended due to Singapore not wanting to let them back in yet. It turned out fine. :)
More babies!
Such a lovely Office of Accountability meeting.
We visited Continuum, the TeamLab exhibit at the Asian Art Museum. Masks on!
Also at the Asian Art Museum, Chanel Miller’s mural.
As a part of the TeamLab exhibit you get to draw your own sea creature which then gets animated and swims around in the room and in the gallery!
The classic architecture of the Asian Art Museum. Formerly the SF Public Library.
My homemade red shiso soda, and the flowering orchid, one of many many plants we have been plant sitting for a few months (and a glimpse at Do-Hee & Josh’s fish we were fish sitting as well!)
Jocelyn Tsai’s solo exhibit at Glass Rice.
Drinks at True Laurel
Dinner at Ernest with Crystal and Chris!
Cassie’s 30th Birthday! More portraits from the party here.
Roux rockin my handmade bandana featuring my hand drawn Taiwanese fruits!
Our first book club meeting about Brene Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection.
Fruits galore from our Radical Family Farms CSA! Korean chamoe melon, strawberries, and tomatoes.
Back at Oracle Park! Exploring the lego sculptures.
Stopped by Courtney’s to help her sort through the abundance of baby shower gifts from the month prior. This baby is very loved!
And another Giants game!
Misty mountains somewhere between San Francisco and South Bay.
Free fireworks! The Giants put on two shows a year.
More CSA bounty.
More baseball! This time looking at the spot on the ground where the foul ball hit and immediately bounced away, wompwomp. Maybe someday we’ll catch one.
Meeting author Cheryl Yau Chepusova at her book signing pop-up at Taiwan Bento! Her Big Cities Little Foodies books are so cute. And of course we restocked on our Taiwan Bento chili crisp too.
Watching the Giants-A’s game — on the field! They were over in Oakland but we got to just come and sit on the field to watch the whole thing. Pretty fun to get free rein like this.
Beautiful grapes from the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market. And a little hitchhiker bee friend.
Less friendly. A very aggressive raccoon! We had to abandon our picnic table plans to hide from these mean raccoons! Luckily they didn’t bother us after we went to the complete other side of the park.
But such wonderful meetings! Cassie and her mom, Baby K and Bri, puppy Roux, and mama-to-be Courtney. Little heart bursts all around.
We also got ready to welcome Do-Hee back from Korea! We got her house cleaned and set up a little welcome gift and banner while she was gone.
Delicious foods in Cupertino. Taiwanese takeout, Tiger Sugar boba, and the new strawberry lemonade pudge cookie from Batch 22.
Hooray! I finally got my wallpaper onto the wall! See last month for Alex’s office as well.
The right tools make a big difference, haha.
Voila! I’m so happy to have both offices wallpapered now. Mine is all line drawings of Taiwanese fruits. I especially like the pineapples and the wax apples.
That pink basket I’ve been crocheting at baseball games! It’s like a sweater-basket for our weights! Also, new very cute accessories for my accessories.
Wow, the adventures are still going! On the last Sunday of the month, we decided to take advantage of the free cable car rides! The cable cars have been closed during the pandemic, but now that they are reopening, they offered free rides for the whole month of August. First we took the Muni to get downtown. This was my first public transit ride since pre-pandemic times.
It’s so fun to watch them turn the cars around. It’s all done manually, with people pushing the car down to the end, turning it on the turntable, and pushing it back onto the cables in the other direction. We took this train all the way to the other end of the line, which brought us over to Ghiradelli Square. Just in time to get in line for Palette Tea House!
The prettiest dim sum you ever did see. Black swan taro puffs! And everything a work of art. Tasty too.
Gotta embrace being a tourist in your own town! I really bought this ornament to remember this weird year by. It’ll make its appearance on our tree over the holidays. Also, getting ready for the return trip, and eyeing the very decked out Giants cable car!
I’m glad these still exist!
Through a series of exchanges and upgrades, Alex got us front row seats in the Lexus Dugout Club for one game! So fancy, you enter through this lounge, much like an airport lounge, where they have all sorts of free snacks and a bar.
This is as close as you can get! Alex mainly wanted to see Kris Bryant’s windmilling warmups in the on-deck circle. Got what we asked for!
We even had better seats than Hunter Pence, who was in the house that night.
Not too shabby, August!
