A Week in Truckee
Over Superbowl Sunday and Valentine’s Day week, we opted for an entire week working remotely from Truckee, near Tahoe. I found us a remote little cabin, completely with wood-burning stove and chickens outside! Towards the end of the week our friend Vince even stopped by for a short stay. Feeding the fire and the chickens — what a wonderful and cozy way to enjoy an especially snowy winter season.
Day one, Alex goes snowboarding at Palisades, while I find a cozy spot in the lodge to do work and hang out all day!
Checking in to the adorable cabin for the week. We had a large bedroom, a little living room, kitchen, and dining area, and an extra lofted bed up above the bathroom.
The best working and reading nooks.
Every morning, we got to go outside to feed the chickens our veggie scraps and to check for fresh eggs!
A bahtzang we picked up from Taiwan Best Mart in Sacramento on our way up; colorful cauliflower — we brought groceries for the week so we could stay in and cook most of our meals. We were 15 minutes from town on a remote back road, so this definitely helped minimize the trekking in and out and maximized the cozy home vibes.
The roads out to town.
We went in to Truckee for Valentine’s Day: a bouquet and chocolates, plus some coffeeshop meeting time.
Visiting my favorites in town: Atelier/Bespoke.
Word After Word Books, and Rock Cellar Records in the basement of the bookstore.
For Valentine’s dinner, Pianeta.
Back to cozy cabin times.
Hello chickies! Thank you for the eggs!
Pretending to live his lumberjack life.
And then Vince appeared! We asked him to pick up this once-a-week sushi pop-up from Truckee, Cloud Sushi, which was really delicious! The chickens also really enjoyed the thin strands of daikon and the shiso leaves the next day.
The laser thermometer tops out at 1112ºF, after which it just says “HI.” That’s a hot log!
Impromptu tea tasting, with a fresh Tung Ting and an Aged Tung Ting circa 1980 that Vine brought from SF. And our final outing with the chickens!
Saying bye to the chickens, and bye to the cabin!
Sights on the way out of the neighborhood
And back into town one more time. This is the lemon cookie from Sierra Bakehouse, which only opens on Friday mornings.
Cute vintage shop next door.
And a pizza place downtown, with potato pizza.
Final visits to the favorite shops.
And last but not least, a little excursion over to Northstar to see the ice skating rink and to take the free gondola up to the Ritz Carlton.
A very fun stay in Truckee. And funny enough, we’re back in Truckee today, catching some 70º spring skiing this weekend. Tahoe has so much snow, Palisades is going until the 4th of July this year! Haha. More to come!
