BAMPFA | Berkeley Photography
I never particularly loved museums growing up. That’s not to say I didn’t still find myself in a fair share of them, but I would rarely select a museum over another activity or just wandering a city. It’s only in the last couple years that I’ve found myself drawn to these places. I think especially in our visually oversaturated digital era, it’s refreshing to step into a physical space to view curated art and interact with tangible exhibits.
The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) is a wonderful place to find inspiration. It just opened its new building in downtown Berkeley in January, 2016. The building itself is gorgeous and modern, filled with natural light and interesting lines that create a plethora of nooks and crannies to get lost in. Let’s take a look inside.
The giant wall mural is a temporary installation that will eventually be replaced by a new piece.
The cafe upstairs overlooks some of the galleries below.
The museum features not only art galleries but also screens many films and offers community events and activities.
Tucked away in a back corner downstairs, a reading room filled with art books and an eclectic grove of wooden furniture made from wood slabs (my favorite).
The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive is definitely worth a visit. Check it out and let me know if you ever need a museum buddy. It’s my thing these days.
