April! A month of treasure hunts and low-key hangouts with friends. Let’s jump right in!
A bike ride to Wise Sons at the Ferry Building Farmers Market, with a stop by the Patagonia in Fisherman’s Wharf, napa cabbage in tow.
The Wolverine Way, as read by this newly minted Michigan fan. And our final destination: Fort Mason…
…for the Renegade Craft Fair!
We were on a treasure hunt for tiny bowls, wedding favors for our wedding next month.
More treasure hunting: this time the Alameda Point Antique Faire, which happens the first Sunday of every month. But since it’s been so rainy, this was the first fair in several months.
We weren’t even looking for mahjong sets, but we found more than one! Alex and I got the set on the left: an American travel set, lightweight wood pieces that look like oversized Scrabble tiles. Michael and Cassie got the set on the right, made from Bakelite, super popular for collectors!
We also spotted a stand selling loose game pieces, with some random mahjong tiles. And one more full (newer) mahjong set, which we did not purchase.
We also got a Giants sweatshirt, a 2010 championship shirt, which completes our championships trifecta for our planned Giants tshirt quilt (2010, 12, 14).
More of our haul: a San Francisco – Oakland Schweppes crate, and three pink goblets!
And this very interesting record, which caught my eye for its cover, but turns out was a very curious project funded by a Hong Kong business org, which hired two Black American musicians to compose music titled “Four Movements for a Fashionable Five-Toed Dragon.”
Back in San Francisco, date night with Courtney and Jackson on the Luma Hotel rooftop bar, Cavaña.
Followed by mahjong with our brand new (to us) set!
Knitting Alex’s gloves.
And visiting Benchmark Climbing. Alex climbed, I knit. Finished one glove!
Reorganizing all my memory cards. Visiting the Apple Store to fix my iPhone lens which had dust trapped inside it.
Painting some wine bottles for our wedding!
Office of Accountability.
Back up to Armadillo Music in Davis.
Taiwanese food!
And a John Mayer solo concert in Sacramento.
Triple birthday party / Easter party at the Yee Los.
Back to baseball season! We won the home opener.
Taking some measurements, plotting for Michael to make some custom scrabble tile holders for our wooden mahjong set!
Visiting the Ansel Adams exhibit at the de Young Museum with my friend Candace. These images by Abelardo Morell were my favorites from the gallery.
Touring a $5.2M house just for funsies.
More painting progress. And a gathering with the Kuhlmanns!
And I got to see Rebecca twice in one week, as we met up for lunch with Emily in town too.
Behind the scenes for Andrew and Sharon’s wedding!
And also a reunion for AnnaTifftime: at the wedding and again the next day for her park gathering.
Record swap at USF. Ogled this early Elton John photo, did not buy.
SF Restaurant Week at Fort Point: “A Very SF” meal special.
Mahjong night! I’m knitting little drawstring pouches to keep our scrabble tiles organized.
A wonderful internet reunion with our ‘lean in’ ladies.
Cassie has always wanted to tour a trash dump, but the tours had been cancelled for the whole pandemic, and they just returned! Haha. So we signed up, and here we are, on the SF Recology tour! I really like that they have an artists program where artists in residence can create art from trash.
Very interesting, very large operation.
Followed by a delicious Korean meal at City Lunch. And later that night, windy times with Annsa & Arvind for their portrait session.
Back to climbing at Benchmark, and dinner afterwards with Vince.
Keeping tabs on the Warriors in the playoffs while watching baseball. And a bit of billboard dysfunction, as a tiny torso floats over the Mets and all of the stats go missing.
Back up to Healdsburg for a final site visit with our coordinator and Reeve! I measured a bunch of stuff with my iPhone. Very handy.
More treasure hunting.. and we got our third mahjong set, haha.
Where Alex grew up, and where I grew up… I got the Grand Rapids cup, so random!
More tiny bowls for our favors! These two ended up with Cassie and Michael.
Little Saint.
Back in SF again, Tunnel Records for Record Shop day. I bought this special release of Surfin’ the Great Lakes… A Midwest surf record?!
Saying hello to Jane (and buying more tiny bowls) at Head West Marketplace in Hayes Valley.
More baseball: this time with fanny packs as a 415 club giveaway.
And photographer meetups! Amanda and Michelle, whom I ran into at City Hall, and Zha Zha, my own photographer for our May wedding.
And finally, a lot of Karl the Fog.
