Bay Area | July, 2024

July recap! Let’s jump right in. Alex tagged along on a surprise proposal, and we had a wonderful dinner at Dalida afterwards.

Fourth of July bbq at Steph and John’s. They ran a whole nature school, catching insects in Westin’s little bug catcher for the boys to look at.

Cracked open another precious bottle of Pliny too.

Another surprise proposal, with Alex as tag-along! Followed by legendary Asian American bakery Breadbelly.

Candace and Derek’s hot dog party! Complete with multiple cakes/pies made by Candace.

Stern Grove! The concert is free, but you have to show up super early to snag a good spot. Alex and I decided to wait in the parking lot for four hours. Got a great spot!

Our cooler comes with a bunch of fake stickers that are actually printed on. We added just one actual sticker, the Stern Grove one on the top right, haha.

Hello Valentes! And our tiny conductor.

Revisiting a couple favorites: Penny Roma for pasta and True Laurel for drinks.

Honoring the legendary Willie Mays. With tributes from President Clinton, Mayor Willie Brown, teammate Juan Marichal, godson Barry Bonds, son Michael Mays, and many more.

And a stunning live performance by Andra Day.

I love the library! So when the SF Public Library announced a Bingo version of this year’s Summer Stride program, I decided to go overboard and complete the entire bingo board instead of just completing one row for bingo. Fun! Extra credit for this cute tote bag?

Over to Chinatown, with a visit to our favorite, On Waverly. I already own the blue version of this mahjong headband, haha.

Artist Janice Chuang hosted a lovely event in her art studio, Taipei Daughter as part of a larger block party, Mason Street Friends.

Henry was slinging Taiwanese lumpia, which we learned is a predecessor to Filipino lumpia!

Running into friends at the event!

Cupertino Farmers Market.

My father in law planted this tiny apple tree because it’s an Anna apple! How sweet.

Lychees. And braised pork belly + tofu knots, from Cathy Erway’s Taste of Taiwan cookbook– one of the recipes that’s made it into our regular rotation now!

Visited the new mini Taiwanese grocery shop, iTaiwan in San Jose.

Grand opening of Ike’s Mission Rock! Store number 100 for them. We got free shirts and sandwiches.

Japanese brunch at Cassava on the edge of North Beach and Chinatown.

The Art of Noise at SFMOMA.

An evening with John Legend, at the SF Symphony! We sat behind the stage.

Pho with Rebecca.

Dinner & mahjong with the Garrisons

Happy girl! And my handmade San Francisco-themed mahjong set.

Olympics opening ceremony party!

Taiwanese breakfast pop-up by Acer.

Custom sandwiches made to order and eaten in a small studio apartment. Very delicious, very San Francisco.

SF Marathon Expo. Alex ran the 10k. I just tagged along for the free kiwis. And this Taiwan tourism booth showing off Taiwan’s marathons and bike tours. How fun!

Super popular bento spot, Komeya. Pretty tasty, but crazy wait.

High fived Alex on his 10k. I did not actually run with him.

Randomly found Nancy near finish line though! And tracked Alex down at the end.

Happy SECOND birthday Leo! In your cute little bear suit.

Jung Hoo Lee bobblehead day! I debuted my newly completed Giants quilt and managed to snag a foul ball too. My first game-used baseball!

Ran into David on the arcade. I also brought my broom and my sign, ready for our Giants to win the entire series versus the Rockies again. SWEEP!

Thank you to Grace for our VIP tickets to the Didi screening!

Including a Q&A panel with filmmaker Sean Wang and movie star Joan Chen.

And finally, annatifftime!
