Rachel & Zach | Evergreen Lodge, Yosemite Wedding Photography
The forecasts were ominous. Though they fluctuated by the hour, they all agreed: it would rain every day this weekend. And while the bride and groom were upbeat and ready to roll with the rain plan, they certainly didn’t choose Yosemite hoping to get married indoors. Rachel’s late father had lovingly run a summer camp for decades, and so in a way this outdoorsy setting at Evergreen Lodge would be a tribute to him. And Zach has always loved the outdoors and is prone to wandering off on long walks. Plus, he has the career to match his love for nature: he, the ornithologist, found Rachel, the physician, who would sometimes find herself underprepared and wearing heels but somehow joining Zach on long hikes. In short, Yosemite seemed to be the perfect backdrop for this union. And despite those rain forecasts, on the day of the wedding, the rain miraculously held off all the way until the evening, and Rachel and Zach were able to have their outdoor ceremony after all. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding and such a soul-enriching experience to revel in the grandeur of Yosemite. What a privilege to be a part of this special celebration.
Rachel told me in advance that Zach hates getting is picture taken and perhaps even more, hates being told what to do. But he was totally game on the wedding day, and I even got away with bossing them around and taking portraits for half an hour prior to the ceremony. I absolutely love that we got to just enjoy the setting while taking these photographs. It was a wonderful way to set the scene for the day.

Back at the lodge, the ceremony was set for the backyard of the John Muir House.
