Tucson, Arizona

Springtime in Arizona! Alex and I decided to plan a little vacation to Arizona, primarily to check off another baseball stadium, but also to go visit Saguaro National Park. So our trip began in Tucson for the national park, and then we drove up to Phoenix and Scottsdale for the baseball portion of the tour.

We stayed at Hotel McCoy, a very cute renovated motel featuring lots of local artists. The murals outside were all by different artists, but each guest room also featured a local artist, and all of the artwork was for sale.

Breakfast was a big oatmeal bar, which was an interesting choice. I could’ve done with a taco bar instead, but it was a fun novelty.

Exo Roast Co. in the historic Barrio Viejo of Tucson.

Nearby, the El Tiradito Wishing Shrine, a popular spot that carries quite the lore of the cursed sinner that was buried there.

Next, we hopped over to 4th Ave for some shopping and lunch. Vinyl records!

We found out that Linda Ronstaedt, of newly revivedĀ Last of Us fame, is actually a Tucson native and was recently in town performing. Seemed appropriate to go home with her greatest hits record.

Lunch at Boca.

And back at the motel, we visited the little bookshop which is in one of the front motel room units.

Plus, pool time, while back home it was still 40 degrees and raining.

Our room had a little chalkboard on the back of the door, so I obliged with a drawing.

Dinner at Tito and Pep, excellent!

And on the final morning, we started with a snack at the Mercado San Agustin and visited the shipping container shops across the street at the MSA Annex as well.

Lots of fun little finds! And finally, a Sonoran hot dog to set us up for our drive up to Phoenix.

Part two coming up, with our visit to Saguaro National Park and the spring superbloom in the desert after this rainy season! Stay tuned.
