Craft Day Birthday

|

Happy birthday to me! As you may know, I have a standing tradition of throwing myself a birthday party to kick off each year. Every time, I ask myself what the specific purpose of my gathering might be, and this time I decided to have an all-day craft day with our closest friends. In the past we’ve all done a specific craft together, but this time I wanted everyone to find a project that they were interested in. That way we could open the year with creativity, make something, and get a dedicated space and time for rest and play. Plus, it was much more inclusive (of dogs and babies) and more interactive and open-ended than a formal party. I loved the whole day and those who came to celebrate with me!

Group photo!

Buster arrived with a birthday message tethered to him, hahaha.

Admiring Jeri’s t-shirt quilt squares, which she had cut for years but was too intimidated to put together. Well. Craft day to the rescue!

Stephanie decided to prototype a cute little paper house.

Cassie got started on a tiny fabric bunny.

The first rows of the Duke shirts being assembled!

Also, lots of dogs and babies time.

Courtney stretched the definition of doing crafts and did work on her photo editing, but that’s fine since we all know how overworked this girl is!

Admiring the cabbage that Cassie brought for her second craft – fermenting in the Sarah Kersten fermentation jar that I got her a while back.

Looked great going in! But the seal did not hold properly and it later became moldy. Alas, my pressed flower project suffered the same fate.

Such a cute house!

One of Alex’s craft projects was craft beer! I got a kit for free from a neighbor, and this was the perfect impetus to actually try it. He had an assist from Michael and some supervision from Dan.

I am from the future and can tell you that a couple weeks later, we had real IPA! It was very good! Would do again!

Back at the sewing station.

And wow! TWO completed quilt tops!

Josh was knitting something, and Michael was modeling something on the computer with baby L’s supervision.

I introduced Westin to these big egg-shaped crayons, and he produced his very first piece of artwork.

Then it was finally time to unveil Alex’s other project, a 20-hour project that started the night before: a smoked brisket.

Alongside some Taiwanese takeout, because that’s how we roll.

The “15” was from my business anniversary party, haha. Fifteen years of Anna Wu Photography. But sure, I’m fifteen too! Happy birthday to me!

Such a fun day of quality time with everyone. Just what I hoped for.

Cheers!
