Carla & Matt | Duke University Chapel & Nasher Museum | North Carolina Wedding Photography
Just seeing the way that he looks at her would be an inspiration to even the coldest-hearted cynic. Both Matt and Carla said it and exuded it throughout the day– they were just so happy to be marrying each other, and they could not wait to begin their marriage together. They waited through long distance and had a long engagement so Carla could finish law school first, and then they suffered a tragic loss when a loved one passed away shortly before the wedding. But through it all, there was faith and there was love. These two are just so full of warmth, kindness, and humility. They are an absolute pleasure to be around.
I was personally just so excited and honored to be a part of this special day, because both Carla and Matt are fellow Duke University alums, and they chose to have their wedding back at Duke. They had their ceremony at the Duke University Chapel, we shot their portraits in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, and finally, their reception was held at the Nasher Museum of Art.
Carla, her family, and all her bridesmaids rented a beautiful, modern house in Chapel Hill and they all got ready there.
I love Carla’s mom’s head peeking out the left side! This was a pretty hilarious moment regarding some wardrobe malfunctions, but we’ll leave it at that.
The bridesmaids were all gorgeous in bright pink.
Both the ladies and the men were looking amazing in front of the iconic Duke Chapel.
And of course, the very handsome groom and the very gorgeous bride.
Carla’s dress looked amazing.
The Duke Chapel– gorgeous, and such a meaningful place to all of us alums. It was honestly on my life’s to-do-list to photograph a wedding here, and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity so early on.
I absolutely love that Carla and Matt were willing (and suggested it themselves) to trek through much of the gardens in order to get these beautiful portraits. They were traversing crazy terrain and walking across zig zag bridges. I have the best couples in the world!
Then we headed to the Nasher Museum of Art for the reception. The first dance:
Both Matt and Carla did amazing choreographed numbers for their mother-son and father-daughter dances. And on the right, I just love the emotional huddle and group hug and the little girl who’s a little left out of the adults’ circle.
Beautiful decor and an amazing groom’s cake (PNC Park for any Pittsburgh fans out there) for Matt.
I asked Carla and Matt to let me know if they had a second to step outside for a quick photo, and I am so glad they were completely excited to do so. This is one of my favorite shots of the day!
The bride’s father!
Gorgeous glimpse.
And an amazing sendoff with special biodegradable confetti!
Congratulations, Carla & Matt! Thank you again for inviting me to document this amazing day.
