New York City in October | Travel Photography
Greetings from New York! I am currently in the city again, but I am still posting about last month’s trip. We packed in the New York eats as always, between our trip to India and my photographing a Brooklyn wedding. It was a lovely autumn visit all in all.
Gifts from Jesse on the left: A Billy’s cupcake and my fancy Kate Spade passport holder! On the right, a cognac leather camera bag– the “Bowery” bag by ONA that I got for Jesse. I did not get him the camera, haha.
Our dinner at Marea, a fantastic Italian restaurant at Columbus Circle in New York.
The Francobolli pasta in the middle was a definitely highlight of the whole trip!
Now we skip to after the India trip. Here’s the World Trade Center-1 (formerly known as the Freedom Tower) as seen at purple dusk.
More views around dusk.
Jesse took me on a nice bike ride up the West Side Highway (which is like an isolated biking/running path so not nearly as terrifying as riding in the rest of Manhattan). And we stopped by the Conrad Hotel to check out their fancy lobby.
And our first meal back after India. Shake Shack! Sorry, holy cows. You are so yummy.
Dinner meetup with a bunch of TAF friends! On the left, Ryan, Kevan, Holly (Kevan and Holly visiting from Austin). On the right, Lillian, Emily (visiting from LA for a month), Vince, and Liz (visiting from Atlanta).
And bubble tea at Teariffic afterwards.
The next day, I went on a little excursion to the green market at Tribeca– just down the block from Whole Foods.
Here’s my awesome loot, made to look like a Renaissance still life painting.
And I morphed my apples and pears into this awesome pear tart! And an apple pie a couple days later too.
Mushroom noodles at Sobaya.
And an excursion out to Brooklyn to the Wythe Hotel, with views of Manhattan from their rooftop bar.
Panoramic! Click to view a larger size.
It looks like “DES” but it’s the Ides Bar.
And afterwards, dinner at Antica Pesa, also in Brooklyn. The owner, Francesco Panella, came out to take a picture with Jesse.
Lunchtime ramen & fried rice at Bassanova Ramen in Chinatown. Love the stark white interior of this place. You can read up on Jesse’s previous review of the place at his Scrumphsus food blog.
Almond cookie and black sesame ice cream from the Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory.
Next, a group dinner at Perla– more Italian food for this trip!
The crostini on the left were a free gift but were so amazing we asked for seconds. It’s ricotta cheese with honey and black pepper. In the middle, the orecchiette pasta. And on the right, roasted duck.
Saturday, brunch at Locanda Verde!
Below, Locanda Verde’s version of ricotta + honey– with truffle honey and burnt orange toast; blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes; and scampi and grits.
Saturday lunch at Spring Street with TAFers!
Amy (in the middle) came up from Philly for the day.
Walking around in Nolita afterwards.
I love this little bookstore! McNally Jackson Books in Nolita.
More cute hotel touring– it’s the Crosby Hotel with all these quirky boutique decor elements.
Ok, warning: don’t read any further if you don’t like seeing meat in animal form… pig roast ahead!
—
We headed upstate to Dobbs Ferry for a Sunday pig feast at the Cookery– they roast a whole hog and serve it to you, carving the whole thing right on the table.
So much pork.
The end (for now)! More New York posts yet to come.
