Cincinnati | Summer, 2016
I’m thrilled to share these two back-to-back trips to my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. First I went back in August to attend my friend Lauren’s wedding (as a guest!), and then I returned in September to photograph my friend Alice’s wedding. See it all below!
My friend Lauren was wed in this beautiful Catholic Church in Oakley.
Lauren & me and her sister Marisa with her husband Scott.
Part two of the wedding was held in Lauren’s parents’ home.
Shoutout to Nikki of Pretty Peas Paperie for the stamp design below that became the motif for the whole wedding!
A Cincinnati must.
Mom and me!
Next, Justin and I visited the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) downtown, which once displayed one of my photographs! On display during this visit: Unraveled: Textiles Reconsidered.
Do Ho Suh’s Passage, a fascinating collection of 2D artworks and 3D site-specific installations.
Everything is made of fabric and wire, down to these details like door knobs and exit signs.
Up on the museum’s sixth floor, a whole space geared toward children (or grown children).
After the museum, we hopped over to Over The Rhine.
Early dinner with our TAF friends!
Sam, Karen, Justin, me, Arthur, and Alice. The last two would be getting hitched the next month!
The best thing about flying from Columbus airport, which is 1.5 hours away? The new Jeni’s ice cream vending machine in the terminal! Uhh, yes please. You’ll see I get an ice cream sandwich on the way out the next trip too.
Trip number two– September! My mother has a very green thumb. My plants do not fare quite as well, despite my ambitions to be like her.
Moon cakes in honor of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.
Friday, pre-wedding night! Dinner and drinks at Mita’s. And double birthday desserts for Jeremy and Vince, whose birthdays are just one day apart.
Fast forward to Saturday night at Alice and Arthur’s wedding! Of course official wedding photos are coming soon too. But here are all our TAF friends celebrating together.
Sunday lunch atop the clubhouse roof deck! Alice, Arthur, Karen, and Sam all live together in this swanky apartment downtown.
Ellie is growing up so fast! And this was already her fourth wedding she’s attended, at age 1.2.
Board games, of course. This was a new one, Betrayal at House on the Hill.
Sam’s brother and his family came over to help celebrate his birthday with a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. his nephew Jack did the honors with the candles!
Three sleeping babies all along the couch. Of varying sizes.
On my final night in Cincinnati, my mom and I headed to Salazar’s for dinner. Delicious! Would definitely go again.
A little stroll around the block in OTR.
This place has transformed so drastically since high school. Here’s Music Hall where I used to play youth symphony concerts every so often!
And finally, a Cincinnati favorite– Greater’s Ice Cream, paired with my vending machine purchase from Columbus on my way back out– Jeni’s ice cream sandwich! It was pretty tasty, though overly frozen to withstand the vending machine conditions. But I was still thoroughly amused by it.
‘Til next time, Ohio!
