Bay Area Adventures | May, 2018
Let’s take a look back at May! I scouted a bunch more locations for my “100 Bay Area Gems” project, gathered with friends, and went to the Asian Art Museum three times in one week. Here we go!
Office of Accountability getting wild as we gathered at my studio to share our goals for the month.
Ballet date with Pei, who was visiting from LA.
Pretty pretty in the War Memorial Opera House.
Best Bay Area wallpaper at Fiorella.
We had to check out the new cafe run by Boba Guys at the Asian Art Museum.
Our Lean In group took a field trip to watch RBG, the Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary.
Browsing Urban Air Market in Hayes with Jon, and checking out a tea spot with photographer friend Zoe.
Visit two to Asian Art Museum! It was Do-Hee’s first time. We ate at Sunday at the Museum (again) too.
Then it was time for CAAMFest, Center for Asian American Media Festival. I attended the opening screening of “An American Story: Norman Mineta and His Legacy,” and got to see Norman Mineta himself.
Afterwards, the opening night gala of CAAMFest at… the Asian Art Museum! My third visit. This time with mini Boba Guys, as they’re cosponsors of the festival too. And I ran into my friend Lucy who was shooting video.
Another gem! The Marin County Civic Center, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Met up with Debo, a friend from college, as he just started a new job at Google and is maybe moving here soon.
More Boba Guys.
Then I stopped by Taiwanese American Cultural Festival in Union Square. It coincides with Taiwanese American Heritage Week and Asian Pacific American History Month each year. Ho Chie gathered a huge library of works by Taiwanese Americans, about Taiwan/Taiwanese Americans, or set in Taiwan. I spy my Pointe of View ballerina book in the upper right corner! And my author portraits of Shawna Yang Ryan for her book Green Island.
Then I got to attend Sarah and Chris’ beautiful wedding near Sacramento. Here is a beautiful poem written by the groom himself.
Fellow wedding guests!
I love the boho magic of this wedding. They created a whole pillow, ottoman, & blanket land for guests to hang out in. Perfect for Sarah’s traveling gypsy nature.
Caught a second CAAMFest film with my friend Paul – it was a documentary about Taiwanese baseball player Chien-Ming Wang. And had a paint date with Pam just before I left for Mexico.
Upon our return, CAAMFest continues with a big Asian American music festival in SF. Here’s Ho Chie with Phil from Wong Fu. And Connie and me spinning the wheel for Boba Guys swag.
The Boba Guys + Ho Chie.
My animal friends we brought back from Sayulita. The cat and dog have gone to our friends’ kids but gallo lives with me now. Then, Itzhak Perlman with the San Francisco Symphony.
The new Magritte exhibit at SFMOMA with Do-Hee.
Another gem: visiting the top of the Campanile at UC Berkeley. Very cool to see the bells up close, and only $3.
Not all of my scouting results in qualified gems. Here’s the “fairy post” at Tilden Park, which was supposed to be an adorable tiny post office as decorated by an artist years ago, but it looks more like a random collection of toys at this point.
Sunset at the Ferry Building after an engagement session.
Port View Park in Oakland.
John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez.
The Mechanics’ Institute Library in San Francisco.
New matcha place in the Mission! Stonemill Matcha.
Tank Hill, which was soooooo windy that day!
And last but not least, our Lean In group which might possibly be rebranding to the “Design Your Life” group. We’ll see. :)
The time is flying! See you next month…
