Maddi and Kangway first met on a graduate school visit weekend in Urbana, Illinois, Kangway’s hometown. The chemistry (yes, that’s what they were studying) was apparent. They have since moved together to Pasadena, Boston, and now the Bay Area. They are always there for each other, nerding out on Harry Potter and superhero movies, debating science, and parenting their dog Quin together. And now they were joining their lives in marriage at the beautiful Rosewood Sand Hill resort in Menlo Park.
The day began at Kangway’s mother’s home nearby.
I love their casual ‘first look,’ whereby Maddi just walked downstairs to where Kangway was standing in the kitchen. This was his genuine reaction!
We had time for some portraits in the back yard before heading to the venue. A family friend helped them DIY all the florals, and they tied in a handkerchief from Maddi’s grandmother. Quinny the dog got some flowers for her collar too.
The beautiful ceremony setting at Rosewood Sand HIll.
Maddi’s childhood babysitter and her husband were the officants, delivering an incredibly personal and hilarious ceremony, including bad chemistry puns, lots of “Law and Order” chimes and also such heartfelt sentiments.
Kangway’s mother read his late father’s favorite poem and spoke on behalf of both of them.
Just as she spoke, a flock of birds flew by.
Quin looked on gamely through the whole ceremony, content to be nearby.
The toasts included more roasting of the couple (mostly Kangway) as well as some touching moments.
And then it was time to move inside for the dances.
A tiny glimmer in dad’s eye.
A very spirited couples’ dance, with three different couples having been married for over 50 years.
The longest-married couple has been married for 54 years. Wow.
Such a wonderful day. Congratulations, Maddi & Kangway!
