San Francisco Sports-Themed Gender Reveal

I planned a little gender reveal for a small group of friends and family, but especially for Alex. He had kept the gender a surprise for himself for the first part of the pregnancy, even though I already knew. So I thought about what would be fun for Alex, and I decided to go with a sports theme. A very specifically Mission Bay, San Francisco, sports theme.

I ordered two powder baseballs online. One would be a white practice ball and one had the real colored powder for the reveal!

We stationed ourselves in the brand new Bayfront Park that had just opened across the street from Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors basketball team, and soon to be home of the Golden State Valkyries, our brand new WNBA team. I had all of our guests place their guesses for boy or girl and fly the corresponding flag. Warriors for boy, Valkyries for girl! 

And then it was time for the big event. We watched a lot of failed reveal videos before this and Alex had practiced with just a few swings beforehand. I was just glad it wasn’t my job to hit the ball, haha.

Good pitch, good hit! But this was just the white practice ball.

Here goes, the real one! Warriors or Valkyries???

That’s a violet valkyrie! She’s a girl!

No one was more surprised than Alex. He thought it was a boy!

Also, a shoutout to our Mike Yastrzemski-signed baseball bat, which will now forever be our gender reveal baseball bat. It is now it’s lovingly mounted on our wall. Thanks for unwittingly being a part of our big moment, Yaz.

I also tacked on a birthday cake for Alex. Might as well celebrate everything, while our people are gathered. :) Thank you to the Garrisons for bringing the cake!

Happy happy. So fun to look back on this now that we already know our baby girl!
