Bay Area | April, 2021
Welcome to the April recap! The big task of the month was moving out of my Oakland apartment after a decade of living there! See some glimpses of our month below:
Paint Club patterns drawing, part two! I made this very fun Taiwanese fruit pattern and actually printed it as fabric! I’m hoping to sew some things with it soon.
Hiked up Las Trampas with my wonderful clients, and Alex. Such a beautiful place.
Popping into the cute shops on Clement St. as we visit the farmer’s market.
Day trip to Tomales Bay. First stop, Cowgirl Creamery for their grilled cheese & tomato soup.
Happened upon this cool general store with an art gallery in the back that invited us to make our own flower mandalas.
My little creation.
Then, oysters from Hog Island.
Picked up some kohlrabi from this little roadside farm stand.
A grey and windy Stinson Beach.
And driving back down on Hwy 1.
Feast!
It was also Easter, so we cracked open this fancy galaxy egg from Formosa Chocolates. More bonbons inside!
Our poor neglected garden plots. Plus, a purple daikon rice made in the donabe.
Cassie has a cow rock friend, and I have a cow pencil bag friend, hah.
Springtime down in South Bay!
Saratoga Quarry. An old quarry turned park.
Cupertino Farmers Market.
And baseball is back in Mission Bay! With an audience! Plus, a women makers’ market at Chase Center. Basketball is also now back with an audience.
Time to pack up my decade+ of accumulated belongings for the move! I rented this stack of crates from Boxbee to help make the packing easier. They dropped off all the boxes here and then later picked them up from the new house in Cupertino.
Thank you to the Native American Health Center for my vaccine! And a tiny library in the neighborhood where we made some book offerings that were immediately taken!
Post-vaccine / mid-moving treats. YiFang and Yojimbo, conveniently located in Alameda where we ended up donating 16 boxes of stuff.
Boichik Bagels pop up with Good to Eat Dumplings making Taiwanese flavored fillings. Yum.
Alex got his vax too! With a nice quesabirria treat on the side.
Exciting weekend plans: Chinese homework. We have online class, 90 minutes, five days a week. Also, cochinita pibil delivered from La Casita Yuca in Richmond. Gotta make the most of our last few days in Oakland!
Moving day!
Well, the big ikea wardrobe did not make it. But luckily this coffee table, which I made, did! I would’ve been most sad about that breaking. And maybe my plants, but they made it too!
A rose from our front yard. Delicious cookies from Batch 22 Bakery.
Organizing everything in the new house… including this collection of takeout utensils that must’ve been amassed over years. We sorted and threw away most of it and just kept a couple.
Back to this Oakland view for a final cleanup!
Organizing our closets by buying a new shelf to replace our ad hoc system too.
And that was pretty much the rest of the month… much house organizing, five million trips to the Container Store and Target, etc. :)
More to come in May! Stay tuned.
