Jessica & Young | Puzzle Game Themed Wedding
Oh no! On their way to the ceremony, Jessica and Young got swept away into a portal and became hostages of a wizard who hates love. In order to rescue them, their friends and family would need to solve a series of puzzles, prove their love for the couple, and defeat the wizard’s spell! So began this very unique and fun-filled game-themed wedding. Starring in their own game was just the beginning for these two. The entire day was filled with thoughtful, personalized details, and guests were laughing through it all– with a few happy tears too. See it all below.
Jessica and Young went non-traditional for their wedding rings. They had these custom made by Good Art. Young wears the J for Jessica; Jess wears the Y for Young.
They also made these matching copper accessories with their wedding date engraved on them: a necklace for Jess and a tie bar for Young.
Jess also made Young’s denim tie. Yes, made a tie. Very fitting, since Young manages a boutique denim store in San Francisco.
Such a good looking pair!
All the florals were done by Valeri of Little Joy. Jess and Young collected the eclectic vessels, including this coffee tin on the right that says “Lee Brothers” (and Young’s last name is Lee).
Not done with the handmade details still! The guest favors and escort cards were leather coasters, each lovingly hand-stamped one letter at a time by Young and Jess.
Because it was a 10am wedding (they’re morning people!), guests were greeted with a coffee bar featuring grounds from Bicycle Coffee in Oakland. Coffee bags also doubled as burlap table runners for all the table settings.
The game begins! Guests start to arrive, and they’re handed this info sheet with lots of facts and great high school IDs for Jessica and Young.
On the back: the mission briefing.
The emcee kicks off the game, with guests competing by table.
Meanwhile, Young and Jess are hiding out in their “portal,” spying on their guests via facetime.
There are a lot of components to this game. If you’ve ever played an escape the room game before, you have a pretty good idea of what this was like– only slightly easier. But still! Actual puzzles, math puzzles, sudoku, a cootie catcher, and more were involved.
Teamwork!
All of this took place with a 30-minute time limit. The clue and answer below: In Jess & Young’s first heart-to-heart, Jess confessed her feelings for Young, and Young declared his feelings for POTATOES. True story. He says he wasn’t really paying attention.
For the rare group that completed all of the puzzles, this was the final task that rescued the couple: taking a group selfie with the provided selfie stick. Amazing.
And the couple is freed! Haha.
Ceremony time!
After the very short and sweet ceremony, it was lunchtime! The caterers provided a really incredible spread of Mexican food, very apt, considering Young’s favorite food is tacos– a fact that featured prominently in the earlier puzzles too.
Then, some heartfelt toasts from the couple themselves. Jessica said from the beginning that she was going to have a hard time containing all the emotions of the day.
At one point, she turned around so she wouldn’t have to keep facing the audience while crying, so Young turned around too, in solidarity. Adorable.
One more set of details: a book that Jessica folded to say J <3 Y a few years ago. And her engagement ring, set with Young’s grandmother’s diamond.
Cheers. To a perfectly unconventional wedding!
