San Francisco Crosstown Trail, Section 2
Hiking the Crosstown Trail is still an ongoing project for us, but Alex and I made a lot of progress in the fall before the weather and our travels set in. The Crosstown Trail is a wonderful volunteer-assembled walking/biking trail that extends from the southeast to the northwest corners of San Francisco. We hiked the first of five sections with the Valentes back in the spring. Hopefully we’ll finish the last of the five soon!
For section two, we embarked in early November exactly where we ended back in early May— along the Glen Park Greenway.
The greenway hugs along the neighborhoods of Glen Park and provides a lovely walk, hidden away from Bosworth Street.
We happened upon the newly completed Burnside Mural.
Then we entered Glen Canyon Park. We had actually just listened to the KQED podcast episode about this being the first dynamite factory in America. Very interesting history!
From the woodsy bottom up to the rocky hills.
And we emerged up at the top of the northern end of the park.
The many views of Sutro Tower!
Back into a little hiking trail that would take us down through the Laguna Honda hospital campus.
Beautiful light and ivy-covered trees through the Steep Ravine Trail.
3.1 miles and 740′ of elevation later, we descended upon the Laguna Honda Muni Station, where we hopped on a bus right back to where we started the section.
Section two complete!
