Dancing in Downtown Chicago | Pointe of View

|

Every Monday, I feature an image and backstory from my Pointe of View series. For more, view all these ballerina posts or visit the Pointe of View store.

I have visited Chicago a number of times, both as a child growing up in Michigan and later on as an adult, as many of my friends were either from the area or moved there after college. I’ve always liked Chicago– its vibrant downtown and sprawling suburbs; its big-city feel mixed with Midwestern groundedness. It has a spirit all its own.

This past fall when I went to photograph a wedding in Chicago, I managed to sneak in a ballerina shoot as well. I met Nardia on the streets of downtown Chicago, just blocks from where she dances as a Joffrey Ballet trainee. The area was mostly quiet on a Sunday afternoon, and we got to capture some great images against the backdrop of this unique city.
