DIY Fabric Ribbon Backdrop | Party Planning

|

I love the simplicity and the slightly raw look of this fabric backdrop. It added the perfect touch for our Pointe of View party and was a great and easy way to establish the coral, peach, and mint green color palette for the decor. Many thanks to my intern Rosa for helping both with making the banner and photographing the process.

All you need is string and a few yards of fabrics– the materials can vary, and the amount just depends on the length of background you need to cover.

Step One: Gather your fabrics. I used about 3-4 yards each of a mint synthetic silk, a coral cotten gauze, and a peach cotton broadcloth. The type of fabrics can vary widely.

Step Two: Cut and tear the fabrics into ribbons about 2-3″ wide. For all these woven fabrics, you should be able to start the strip with scissors and rip it the rest of the way. Continue so you have a pile of fabric ribbons.

Step Three: Tape or tie up your base string that will support the backdrop. I used a basic cotton twine. Begin tying your fabric ribbons to the string, evenly spacing them.

That’s all there is to it! You can easily vary the colors, the width and the length of these beautiful ribbon backgrounds. For a more finished look, you can use actual ribbons as well, though making it out of $3/yd fabrics is definitely more cost-effective. Happy crafting!
